During the Vietnam War (By the way, the Vietnamese call it the American War) Da Nang was an important military base for the Americans. Parts of the Air Force base, and plane hangers still remain. In fact, most of the aiports we flew in and out of (Da Nang, Na Trang and Saigon) were originally American bases.

Da Nang sits on a bay and not far away is Marble Mountian with it's stunning pagoda as well as beautiful white beaches which have been nick-named "China Beach" after the popular TV series. China Beach served as a rest-and-recreation center for US forces taking a few days leave from the war.
