Most people in Viet Nam do not own cars. By far the most popular mode of transportation is motor bike. We were told that of Hanoi's 3,000,000 more than 2,000,000 owned motor bikes; and Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), which has a population of more than 5,000,000 has nearly 4,000,000 motor bikes!
Those who do not own cars or motor bikes often ride their bicycles. The most common of taxi's in each of the cities in Viet Nam are 3 wheeled bikes with a large seat in the front and a "peddler" in the back. These bikes are also used to transport nearly everything imaginable.

fantastic transport :)
thanks
It's a wonder how these drivers can see with all those boxes on their bikes. I wonder if they wreck often.
Their bikes are really cool looking. I wonder if they have a hard time pedaling with big heavy loads on.
Taylor and "The Animal",
It's amazing to watch these guys peddle things around. I've never seen a bicycle crash, but every once in a while cars do! The interesting thing is there aren't many traffic lights (for a big city) and the cars and motorbikes and bicycles all go and somehow they all seem to miss each other!
They carry EVERYTHING on these things. And it's not uncommon to see an entire family (4-6 people) on one motorbike!
